Metal plating
Plating is the process of depositing a metal film onto a substrate. In these
electroless plating processes, the substrate acts as a catalyst in the
reduction process, resulting in precipitation of metal. The complexation of nickel
by lactic acid makes it the preferred acid for nickel plating.
Salts of lactic acid are widely used
in metal stripping, for example in silver stripping formulations used on
printed circuit boards.
Cataphoretic coatings
In cataphoretic coatings, PURAC lactic acid is used as a compatible
solubilizing agent and pH regulator. PURAC lactic acid is also used for
cleaning the ultrafilters in this application field.
Metalworking fluids
Environmental and safety regulations push the lubricants industry to develop
formulations that contain safe and natural compounds. PURAC lactic acid is a
very suitable material for these kinds of products because of its
multifunctionality.
The main functionalities of PURAC in
metalworking fluids are:
- Biostatic properties
- Reduction of skin irritation
- Inhibition of aluminum staining
- Prevention of residue formation
- Coupling effect
