PURAC announces a new bio-based initiative to help companies
replace or reduce the amount of petrochemicals in their products. PURAC’s
bio-based initiative grew out of the growing market demand for green products.
Sustainability is the new reality in the chemical industry as companies move
away from depletable resources and consumers choose products on the basis of
their environmental friendliness.
“We have created renewable, bio-based alternatives to petroleum-based
chemicals,” explains Gerrit Vreeman, president, PURAC America. “Using our
proven fermentation technology, we manufacture a range of naturally derived
products to replace or reduce solvents, acids and salts derived from
non-renewable sources that help companies work toward achieving their long-term
sustainability goals.”
PURAC’s natural lactic acid and derivatives offer
sustainable, economical and multifunctional solutions for a variety of
industries: industrial cleaning, solvent cleaning, polymers, oil field
chemicals, pharmaceuticals, paints and inks, metal fluid chemicals, micro
electronics, and agrochemicals.
PURAC’s lactic acid can successfully replace phosphoric,
hydrochloric and other inorganic or petrochemical acids. PURAC’s lactate esters
can be used to replace traditional petrochemical based solvents. Recently PURAC expanded its product portfolio
with L- and D- lactide. These cyclic monomers can be used as building blocks
for biobased chemicals, oligomeric or polymeric products. This will allow our
customers to increase the biocontent of their final product.
