In the polymer industry, PURAC lactic acid is used as a monomer in various types of polymers. Polylactic acid (PLA) is a biodegradable, compostable polyester derived from renewable resources. PLA is expected to have a bright future as an environmentally friendly thermoplastic. By using this 'green' polymer, the industry will be able to close the 'carbon cycle' and become less dependent on fossil resources, while at the same time working to safeguard our natural environment.

As the most experienced supplier of lactic acid, PURAC is a major contributor to the realization of this important goal, but does not produce PLA for technical applications itself.

If you are looking for an independent source of lactic acid for your PLA production, please contact us at PLA@purac.com.  Alternatively, if you are looking for lactic acid based polymers for medical or pharmaceutical applications please visit www.puracbiomaterials.com.
