Dutch TNO study confirms high calcium
bioavailability of PURACAL calcium sources
The efficacy of a calcium source depends on the availability of
calcium for absorption from this source. In Current Topics in Nutraceutical
Research 2003, 1 (2), pp.161-168, the TNO Nutrition and Food Research
Institute (the Netherlands) recently published an in-vivo study into calcium
absorption from calcium sources in postmenopausal women.
The TNO study showed that PURACAL calcium sources are highly
bioavailable calcium sources, from which calcium is significantly better
absorbed in comparison with calcium phosphate. No differences in calcium
absorption were found between calcium L-lactate supplements taken with an Asian
or a Western breakfast. Calcium from PURACAL calcium sources is as bioavailable
as calcium from milk, and therefore PURACAL calcium lactate and PURACAL calcium
lactate gluconate have been proven to be very good calcium sources for calcium
fortification of food.
