The presence of the free mineral cations is required to
establish the suggested effects of minerals on human physiology. Solubility is
required for dissociation of the mineral salt, which provides the free mineral
cations and free lactate or gluconate anions. The dissociation constant Kd
indicates the concentration of free ions in solution; the lower the pK (=-log Kd),
the higher the amount of free ions in solution. The dissociation constants of
PURAC minerals are generally low and PURAC minerals are therefore highly
effective mineral sources.
