Enclosed and modular cleaning systems

Most solvent users will need to change their solvent and/or equipment to meet changes in legislation. The main changes in legislation which affect solvent users are:

• Probable reclassification of n-propylbromide (e.g. R60 and R63)
• Reclassification of trichloroethylene (TCE)
• Solvent Emission Directive (1999/13/EC)

The changes in legislation have resulted in an urgent need to find alternative solvents and cleaning processes in the solvent degreasing and cleaning market. PURASOLV-based cleaning systems have proven to be perfect alternatives to traditional (halogenated) solvent systems.

PURASOLV lactate esters are safe and environmentally friendly solvents with excellent solvency, cleaning and degreasing power. PURASOLV lactate esters have good compatibility with a wide range of substrates and can be used in enclosed and modular machines.

Enhanced solvent cleaning

Enhanced solvent cleaning combines the superior solvency power of PURASOLV EHL with the rinsing and drying properties of fluorinated hydrocarbons or ethers (e.g. FORANE 365 HX from ATOFINA).

PURASOLV EHL (2-ethylhexyl-S-lactate) is a safe and environmentally friendly solvent with excellent solvency power. PURASOLV EHL shows good compatibility with a wide range of substrates and is the only non-VOC solvent (in Europe) for cleaning and degreasing applications.

The advantages of the enhanced solvent cleaning system are:

• cost-effective cleaning solution
• combines superior solvency with rinsing and vapor drying
• no lip extraction
• low solvent losses (especially expensive fluorinated compounds)
• solvents (PURASOLV and FORANE) are classified as non-flammable and non-hazardous
• excellent substrate compatibility

The enhanced solvent cleaning system can be used for a variety of solvent cleaning applications and is suitable for a wide variety of market applications, including:

The enhanced solvent system is highly effective for precision cleaning where vapor rinse in distilled vapor is required. This results in excellent stain-free drying.

Enhanced solvent system:

Tank 1 contains an enhanced solvent made of 60% PURASOLV EHL and 40% fluorinated rinsing agent. Tank 2 contains 100% of the fluorinated rinsing agent. Both tanks can be fitted with ultrasonic transducer(s) or power flow agitation to optimize the cleaning efficiency.
