Being a natural constituent of the human skin, natural lactic
acid and lactates are well known for their positive effects on the
skin. It is widely used in personal care products for its excellent
moisturizing properties in both leave-on as well as rinse-off
products. Detergent products like manual dishwashing, liquid soap,
wet-wipes and hand laundry washing can cause irritation and dryness
of the skin after frequent contact. Therefore, these are key
features to avoid.
Incorporation of lactates offers formulators the opportunity to
formulate with effective, less expensive but often "harsher"
surfactants, whilst still producing mild yet cost-effective
formulations.
