Heat stable applications
Most bioplastics of the past have had the major drawback that
they could not withstand increased temperatures. However,
Purac has developed a solution for PLA-based bioplastics.
PLA is an acronym that describes not just one product, but
actually a range of different polymers. By combining D- and
L-lactides in different ways, polymers with a range of properties
can be produced: including heat stability.
Using stereo-complex technology, D-lactide can be used to
develop a range of new heat-resistant PLA applications. Purac has
demonstrated that this is not just a theory, by developing a range
of technologies in cooperation with Universities, Institutes,
compounders and brand owners.
