Purac
Shaping the future of biobased plastics

The bioplastic heat challenge

Most bioplastics of the past have had the major drawback that they could not withstand high temperatures.  However, Purac has developed a solution with PLA-based bioplastics.

PLA is an acronym that describes not just one product, but actually a range of different polymers. By combining D and L Lactides in different ways, stereo-complex polymers with a wide range of properties such as increased heat stability can be produced.

Groundbreaking high heat technology from Purac
Using D Lactide, stereo-complex technology can be used to develop a range of new heat-resistant PLA applications. Purac has demonstrated that this is not just a theory by developing a range of technologies in cooperation with Universities, Institutes, compounders and brand owners.

Purac has developed a high heat PLA variety that can withstand temperatures up to 180°C / 356°F. This heat resistant bioplastic is ideal for biobased beverage cups for hot drinks such as coffee, soup, hot chocolate, tea, etc.
