1) 100% biobased
PLA (Poly Lactic Acid) is one of the most
environmentally friendly bioplastics available today. It is
made from 100% biobased resources and has multiple end-of-life
options (i.e., 100% recyclable and biodegradable).
2) Highly efficient use of feedstocks
PLA is a highly efficient plastic. To make 1kg of PLA requires
just 1.6kg of sugar. Other types of bioplastics can require
significantly more
natural resources to produce the same amount of
end-product.
3) Advanced technology R&D and flexible product
properties
Our solutions for PLA bioplastics have been created to allow
producers to develop the polymers that have the best performance
for their particular application. Based on discussions with our
partners Purac has developed new products and new fermentation and
purification processes. Combinations of L Lactide and D Lactide can
be used as a solution to create PLA co-polymers or
block-co-polymers with a range of features. The availability of
pure D Lactide also offers the possibility for further development
of second generation PLA based on stereo-complex technology. This
technology offers the unique possibility to increase
the heat-resistance of PLA to 120°C (HDT B).
4) Available on an industrial scale
A
new PLA polymerization process has been developed with Lactides as
starting material. By making use of already existing economies of
scale for Lactic Acid, these solutions greatly reduce technology
hurdles and financial risks for our partners, while allowing
value-added applications to be developed. We can help you make your
bioplastic applications a reality.

5) Proven durable applications
PLA applications have
already been developed and introduced to the consumer market. These
applications have proven to be successful, which attests to the
competence of this polymer. Whether you are interested in molded
parts, film, foam or fibre, just ask us for some sample material
and we'll be happy to assist.
